Vannevar Bush wrote an article in 1945 proposing a method for connecting microfiche documents with a series of links. The mouse, along with the idea of browsing and email, were developed in the 1960s. Today, web technology has advanced significantly and continues to do so. Businesses around the world develop their own websites to market products and services to potential customers. They also communicate extensively with current customers. In order to ensure the health of product sales, customer interaction and a number of other variables, people use web analytics to gather information.

Web analytics involves the collection of complex data. The data is gathered from an Internet domain name and fashioned into reports by the domain owner. The reports provide detailed information about a number of events. For example, a book seller may use web analytics to determine which part of a website results in the most sales.
